My Free Session Checklist for New Parents
Everything you need to know to feel prepared, relaxed, and confident before your at-home newborn photography session.
Welcoming a new baby is overwhelming enough — your photo session shouldn’t be.
As a Newborn Photographer working in clients’ homes across Warwickshire, Leicestershire, and Birmingham, I know how busy (and sleep-deprived!) the early days of parenthood can be. That’s why I created a simple, free Newborn Session Checklist to help you feel calm, organised, and fully prepared ahead of your session.
Whether you’re a first-time parent or a seasoned pro, this checklist takes the guesswork out of getting ready — so you can focus on what really matters: soaking in every beautiful, fleeting moment with your baby.

It includes:
-
What to wear (for you, baby, and siblings)
-
What to have to hand during the session
-
How to prepare your home (spoiler: minimal effort required!)
-
Feeding and sleep tips for the day of the shoot
-
Optional extras you might like (but don’t need to stress over)
Why Use a Checklist at All?
You already have a million things on your mind. This guide simplifies everything:
-
No scrambling to find outfits last-minute.
-
No stressing over what your home “should” look like.
-
No worrying if your baby will cooperate (I promise, they will — in their own perfect way).
It’s designed to make your session smooth, enjoyable, and stress-free.
What’s on the Checklist? A Sneak Peek…
1. Keep Baby Comfy
-
A plain white or neutral onesie
-
Muslins or blankets you love
-
A dummy (if baby uses one)
-
Nappy and wipes station nearby
2. Clothing for Parents & Siblings
-
Light, neutral tones work best (think soft creams, greys, muted pastels)
-
Avoid logos and bold prints
-
Keep it simple, comfortable, and true to you
3. Home Prep Tips (No Deep Clean Required!)
-
Clear the clutter from a few key spots: the bed, sofa, and windows
-
Close blinds and curtains to keep out as much natural light as possible
-
Have a warm blanket or two handy for cuddly shots
4. Feeding & Naps
-
Feed baby shortly before the session starts
-
Don’t worry if they’re wide awake or sleepy — both make for beautiful photos
-
Snacks for older siblings can be a game-changer
A Baby-Led, Relaxed Approach
One of the most common questions I get from parents is:
“Do I need to have a picture-perfect home for the photos to work?”
The answer is no — not at all.
I bring everything we need to create soft, timeless images — right to your home. Think of it as a portable studio with none of the pressure or formality of a traditional setup.
What I Bring:
-
Professional wraps, neutral blankets, and baby-safe posing cushions
-
Lightweight equipment for safe, cosy setups on your bed, sofa, or floor
-
Natural textures and minimal styling to keep the focus on your baby
I adapt everything to your space — whether that’s a bedroom or a snug living room.
Always Baby-Led, Always Gentle
Every part of the session is guided by your baby’s needs. That means:
-
We pause for feeds, nappy changes, or cuddles whenever needed
-
Sleepy or awake, calm or wiggly — we go with the flow
-
I never rush — the session is relaxed and unhurried
This approach ensures your baby is safe, soothed, and at ease throughout.
The Result?
Beautiful images that reflect your family in a genuine and heartfelt way — all captured in the comfort of your own home.
