A celebration of culture through Newborn Photography in Warwickshire, Leicestershire & Birmingham

Newborn photography is more than capturing tiny fingers and sleepy yawns—it’s about preserving a moment in time that tells the story of who your baby is, and where they come from.

Over the last few years, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to build deep, lasting relationships with families from all walks of life. What started as newborn sessions often turns into years of trust, connection, and mutual respect. Some of the most meaningful experiences in my career have come from working with families from Sikh, Hindu, Nepalese, and African backgrounds—photographing their babies, and celebrating the rich cultures that shape their stories.

Newborn photography isn’t just about capturing sleepy poses and tiny details. For me, it’s about storytelling—your story, your family’s heritage, your values. It’s about creating images that your child will look at one day and say, “This is where I come from.”

Why Culture Matters in Newborn Photography

Culture is woven into everything—our traditions, colours, names, and stories. For many parents, honouring their cultural roots in their newborn session is just as important as capturing the baby’s features. It’s a way of documenting legacy, a visual keepsake that future generations can look back on with pride.

Incorporating culture into a newborn session might include:

  • Traditional fabrics or clothing items (like wraps, turbans, or woven blankets)

  • Symbolic colours or patterns with cultural significance

  • Family heirlooms or meaningful items brought to the session

  • Creative posing that reflects traditions or values

  • Careful attention to modesty and respect for religious customs

Each session is completely unique, guided by conversations with the family beforehand. I always ask about what matters most—whether that’s representing a specific cultural detail, celebrating a religious milestone, or simply capturing a baby in a way that feels true to their roots.

Thoughtful, Respectful Storytelling

It’s incredibly important to me that cultural elements are included with authenticity, care, and intention. I take time to listen and learn, and I never make assumptions. Whether it’s choosing the right colours, understanding the meaning behind a particular garment, or ensuring the atmosphere is calm and safe, your baby and your values are always at the heart of the process.

A Visual Legacy for Your Family

These photos aren’t just for today. They’re for your child to look back on when they’re older—to see themselves not only as a newborn, but as part of something bigger. A heritage. A story. A culture that welcomed them with open arms from the very start.

Recognised for Cultural Portraiture

This approach to cultural storytelling has not only been fulfilling personally—it’s also been recognised professionally. I’ve won countless awards for my work in this space, including being named British Portrait Photographer of the Year at The British Photography Awards, which remains one of the proudest moments of my career.

But more than the awards, it’s the messages I get from parents—thanking me for seeing their culture, for including it so thoughtfully, and for giving them something their children will treasure—that stay with me.
